THE RULES of the GREATER MANCHESTER CHAMBER OF COMMERCE GOLF SOCIETY – October 2011
Name
1. The Society shall be known as the Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce Golf Society.
Accountability
2. The Society will come under the control of the Board of Directors of Skills Solutions on behalf of Greater Manchester Chamber and all aspects of the Society’s activities will be subject to the Board’s approval. All assets such as trophies of the Society shall be the property of Skills Solutions on behalf of Greater Manchester Chamber. The Society will be operated on behalf of Skills Solutions on behalf of Greater Manchester Chamber by Jennifer Shaw t/a Jennifer Shaw Events and all membership fees will be paid directly to Jennifer Shaw Events.
Membership
3. To qualify for election or re-election as a Member of the Society, a candidate must be an officer, sole trader, employee, consultant, partner of a member firm of the Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce.
4. The Committee may, at their discretion, re-elect annually to membership of the Society such persons as they deem fit who have at one time, been a Director or employee of a Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce member firm, or an employee or former employee of the Chamber. Such members shall enjoy all the privileges of ordinary members.
5. Members may compete for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prizes, and other prizes as sponsorship will allow.
6. Members are encouraged to bring a guest or guests to the monthly Golf Society meetings, but no guest may be permitted to play more than twice, without being asked to join the Golf Society as an Associate Member. (An associate individual, business or company of a Member of the Golf Society)
Guests
7. Will compete for the ‘Best Visitor’ prize.
Subscriptions
5. The Society year shall commence on 1 January and end on 31 December.
6. A subscription, the amount of which shall be decided by the Committee, and ratified by the Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce each year, shall be payable on election and thereafter on 1 January each year. No member, whose subscription is unpaid, shall be eligible to take part in any competition. Should a member’s subscription be in arrears the Committee shall have the authority to remove him/her from membership.
7. Any member who has not paid by the day of an individual event will be excluded from the main competition, but will still be required to pay the Society any out of office expenses incurred.
Committee and Officers
8. The Society shall appoint a Captain and other members to include Jennifer Shaw (Secretary/Manager), the Immediate Past Captain, the Vice-Captain, and a representative from the Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce to form a Committee to run the affairs of the Society. The Captain shall chair the committee. The Committee will meet on days to be advised by the Golf Secretary.
The committee have authority to appoint a President of the Golf Society. The President must have served on the committee as an official.
9. Administration/Management of the society events will be operated by Jennifer Shaw Events.
Annual Meeting
10. The Golf Society will hold an Annual Golf Meeting on a date and at a venue to be nominated by the committee, to which all members shall be invited. Any member may attend this meeting and present any ideas or suggestion which will benefit the Golf society.
Competitions
11. Competitions shall be held at such times and under such conditions, as the Committee shall determine.
Society days shall be played with a full handicap allowance. Pairs and team of 4 competitions will be played with a 7/8 handicap allowance.
The Millennium Cup (singles knock-out) shall be played with a full difference handicap allowance and will be played in Matchplay format. See separate entry form and rules of play. A separate entry fee is payable to that of Membership of the Golf Society.
The Masters Competition shall be played with a full handicap allowance.
12. The Committee, or any other persons authorised by the Committee will settle disputes arising in connection with competitions.
13. All competitions shall be governed by the rules of the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews, and be subject to the local rules of the course over which the competition is played.
14. In the event of a tie in any Society competition, the decision shall be made on the better score over the last nine holes on the card, failing that on the last six holes, failing that on the last three holes, failing that on a card play-off and finally, on a sudden death play card play-off commencing on hole one of the card.
A player failing to notify their non-appearance by noon the previous day may, at the discretion of the committee, be banned from the next competition.
Handicaps
16. All members are required to hold a club or Society handicap.
17. Members must notify the Secretary of their lowest Club Handicap and of any changes in that handicap, and must produce a certificate of their lowest current handicap when requested.
18. The Committee has the right to allocate a Society Handicap to any member.
19. The Society will reduce the handicap of any Society competition winner or joint winners by a minimum of one shot or more depending on their winning score; this handicap will apply for the remainder of the season in which the win takes place.
Sponsorship
21. To sponsor an event:-
The sponsorship fee in 2011/12 is £300. This includes the prize table, trophies for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd (main) prize winners and the Best Visitor prize. Also included in the sponsorship is publicity through social networks including LinkedIn, Twitter and Facebook. Sponsors will have a presence on the day of the Golf Society Meeting and will be encouraged to publicise and give a presentation about their company, so far as the individual Golf Club will permit.
Prizes are to be purchased on behalf of the sponsor by Jennifer Shaw Events.
